Olive oil - a must in the Mediterranean kitchen.

A hispanophile at heart, but my favorite olive oil is actually from Nice in southern France. Nicolas Alziari does not only offer an exquisite range of olive oils but has also the most beautiful bottles and tins in typical Provençal colors. I mean, just look at them!

The house of Nicolas Alziari has been in the olive oil business since 1868 and is one of the most important French producers. They focus on every detail in the olive oil manufacturing and is offering a wide range of different products. An early competitive advantage was using the terminology of wine producers and creating grand cru olive oils that range from mild, mild and fruity to intense and fruity.

I first came in contact with the Nicolas Alziari olive oil when visiting Nice back in 2012. The hotel on Promenade des Anglaise where we stayed featured the olive oil in their reception area. Drawn to the colorful design I spoke to the receptionist who told me that not only did Nicolas Alziari have their own little olive oil shop in Nice (since 1920) they also had a restaurant called La Table Alziari.

The Nicolas Alziari shop on 14 Rue Saint-Francois de Paule in Nice.

My husband and I decided to have dinner there and arrived at a modest, and almost hidden, little gem on 4 Rue Francois Zanin, in the old town. The family owned restaurant served traditional French cuisine from the region in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere and it has since become our absolute favorite restaurant in the area.

But back to the olive oil; I really enjoy the sweet, nuttery taste of their cuvée prestige and a visit to their nice shop is a must when at the French riviera.
